The radiation-free ultrasound examination can be used to examine almost any soft tissue. Air-filled cavities or organs such as the lungs or intestines, on the other hand, absorb, scatter and reflect sound too strongly and therefore do not produce a clear image.
Ultrasound examination is suitable for the following organs:
Liver, gall bladder, spleen, gastric outlet, pancreas, kidneys, urinary bladder, prostate, lymph nodes for tumors, cysts, and stone disease.
Thyroid gland for enlargement or reduction, cavities (cysts) and tumors.
Heart, heart muscle and heart valves
Joints for joint effusions and inflammation
Blood vessels in the abdomen and legs
Neck area (examination for constrictions or occlusions of the vessels supplying the brain)
