Obesity

Dr. Michael Janis: Medical practice for obesity in Frankfurt, Germany

Obesity is a nutritional and metabolic disease associated with severe overweight. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), normal values are 19-24 kg/m² in adult women and 20-25 kg/m² in men. We speak of obesity grade I at a BM > 30 kg/m², and obesity grade 2 at a BMI of > 35 kg/m². At a BMI >40 kg/m², this is referred to worldwide as grade 3 obesity, which is then usually also accompanied by other concomitant diseases.

The following common conditions may be associated with obesity:

  • High blood pressure (arterial hypertension)
  • Blood sugar disease (diabetes mellitus)
  • Respiratory arrest syndrome (obstructive sleep apnea syndrome)
  • Joint complaints
  • Spinal complaints
  • Depressive moods
  • Exhaustion states
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Reflux gastritis and heartburn
  • Erectile dysfunction
